Club Championships postponed

Due to the downpour we’ve had in the past 48 hours, and the forecast of more rain to come, the Senior Club Championships grand final day has been postponed.

It will be delayed by one week, now to be held on Sunday 9th June.

Hope to see all our members down at the club either competing or cheering next Sunday!

Senior Club Championships 2013 – Entries now open!

The club is holding its Senior Club Championships over the coming weeks. It’s a chance to pit your talents against others at the club, even your own teammates!

The Grand Finals will be held on Sunday 2nd June, from 12pm onwards. Any semi finals and qualifying finals will be held at a time convenient to the competitors involved prior to this date.

There are singles and doubles events available in Open, Restricted and even Masters categories; so there’s an event suited to everyone! If you don’t want to play, you can still come down and cheer the grand finalists. There will also be a BBQ lunch put on that day, so there’s no reason to miss it!

The cost is $10 per person per event. You can enter by visiting the Club Championships page of the website, or by picking up an entry form down at the clubrooms.

Entries close Friday 17th May.

Hope to see you there!

Working bee this Saturday

We are holding a working bee down at the club this Saturday, 23rd February, from 3-5pm. All types of job, from gardening, to cleaning and other repairs will be up for grabs.

This is a perfect chance to work off part of your building levy for next financial year. By attending, you will save $30 off your 2013-14 membership if you have an adult or family membership; and save $7.50 off your 2013-14 membership if you are a student.

The work will be followed by a hit on our freshly resurfaced courts 3-6!

Hope to see you all there.

Sunday Social Event Winter 2012

Everyone digging into the great lunch!

The 4th Sunday Social event was held on the 1st July 2012.

23 members braced the cold conditions to enjoy the barbecue lunch and witness the crowning of our club champions and senior tennis competition winners.

After lunch, awards were presented by Senior Tennis Co-Ordinator, Joel Ganino.

The Westmeadows Tennis Club Committee would like to congratulate the following winners of the 2012 Club Championship events.

Open Mens Singles- David Robinson
Open Ladies Singles- Gabriella Ioannou
Restricted Men Singles- Chris Ioannou

Open Mens Doubles- Nabil Chakelli & Jadd Chakelli
Open Mixed Doubles- Nabil Chakelli & Freda Tabiaat
Be sure to look at the phots at the facebook page.

Joel Ganino and the Senior Tennis Committee would like to congratulate the following winners for the Senior Tennis Competition prizes:

1. Most Consistent – Joe D’Asta – well done Joe, this follows up your most improved award a couple of seasons ago!!
Prize: $50 Gift Voucher to Rebel Sport

2. Most Improved – Matthew Giampiccollo – Go Matt!! A member of the Mens B Reserve 3 premiership team, Matt improved his consistency on the court and more importantly, his serve!!
Prize: Brand New Slazenger Pro Tennis Racquet

The day finished around 4pm, and even though no one could have a hit (unless they brought their bathers), members had an enjoyable time sitting around chatting with each other telling stories of the funnier moments in the season gone by.

A day like this could not be possible without the help of others. So it is important we thank the following members:

1. Nabil, Sami & Jadd Chakelli – for coming down early and helping out, supplying music, and saving the BBQ with the tarp!
2. Kristian Galas – everyone’s favourite! Always comes down to help when required. Just don’t get him to clean anything!
3. Christian DiCocco – Another who came down early to help set up. Made a mess of the BBQ Chicken, but it still tasted good!
4. Joshua Ganino – lets face it, he had no choice!

New Alarm System

Westmeadows Tennis Club has invested in a sophisticated security system designed to protect the facilities from criminal activity. Our facility will be under surveillance by multiple cameras with an alarm triggered by motion sensors.

As of Tuesday 1st November (Melbourne Cup Day) the security alarm system will be active. From this date, entry and exit from the clubrooms can only occur by authorised people with personal security codes.

If you have not already been given a code and believe you require one, or if you require any additional information, you can contact our security co-ordinator via  the contact form accessed through the Contact Us page.

Tennis Victoria Affiliation

You may have been wondering, what does my $28 affiliation fee actually get me? The WTC Committee recently met with our region’s Community Tennis Officer Nick Whitefield and asked that very question…

  • Personal Accident Insurance covers you for injuries sustained when playing tennis or associated activities.
  • Access to Australian Open pre-sale tickets and the Tennis Australia ballot for French Open and Wimbledon tickets
  • Other special offers such as discounts on magazine subscriptions, tennis racquets, physiotherapy and travel.

Detailed information is available on the Tennis Victoria website or in the ‘Hot off the Court’ monthly member e-newsletter.  Probably the most important of these is the Personal Accident Insurance but be aware, this may not cover you for burns sustained taking your party pies out of the oven after your last set – that’s a tennis associated activity isn’t it?

Working Bee – Sunday October 2nd

All members are encouraged to attend our second Working Bee of the year on October 2nd from 2pm – 4pm. There are a number of tasks to be achieved, requiring the skills of both sexes and there are even tasks for tiny hands too!

Don’t forget that your contribution to two WTC events throughout the financial year (or by multiple family members to only one for family memberships) scraps your building levy. This is a saving of $60!

New committee for 2011-12
